Classes I PUC and II PUC are a key stage in the student life of an individual. It marks that 2-year gap that bridges a young school-child from an adult college student. The age range of 14 to 17 is a crucial time when the youngsters need guidance and support, without infringing on their need for freedom. At St. Mary’s pu college, we ensure this period is enjoyable as well as educative to the students. We place before the students the ideal mix of serious education, extra-curricular activities and fun. we make this journey a memorable experience. A pious environment, good infrastructure, experienced teachers, supportive management, understanding parents and willing students – all these factors enable us to achieve this.

The Department of Commerce was started at St. Mary’s pu college in the academic year2017-18. It aims to build key competencies such as liking for numbers and data analysis, business acumen, understanding of basics of economics etc. among its students. The faculty consists of a team of excellent teachers who have many years of proven experience. They are also proficient in adopting the latest teaching methodology to ensure the best practices are inculcated in the teaching-learning process. We aim to provide all-round exposure to the students in preparation for their Graduation courses. In this direction, we conduct various departmental events such as debates, quiz programs, current affairs discussion forum, participation in inter-school departmental fests etc.

  1. ACCOUNTANCY
    Accounting education can be considered as experience, as practice in learning to learn, and as part of education for business.. The objective of accounting is to provide insight into the results of management decisions. The aim of accounting education is to help students learn to learn to become professional accountants.

Accounting or accountancy is the measurement, processing, and communication of financial information about economic entities such as business and corporations Accounting, which has been called the “language of business measures the results of an organization’s economic activities and conveys this information to a variety of users, including , investors ,regulators management, and creditors .

  1. STATISTICS:

The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the subject of statistics as a science of data. There is data abound in this information age; how to extract useful knowledge and gain a sound understanding in complex data sets has been more of a challenge. In this course, we will focus on the fundamentals of statistics, which may be broadly described as the techniques to collect, clarify, summarize, organize, analyze, and interpret numerical information.:
This course will begin with a brief overview of the discipline of statistics and will then quickly focus on descriptive statistics, introducing graphical methods of describing data. You will learn about combinatorial probability and random distributions, the latter of which serves as the foundation for statistical inference. On the side of inference, we will focus on both estimation and hypothesis testing issues. We will also examine the techniques to study the relationship between two or more variables; this is known as regression.
By the end of this course, you should gain a sound understanding about what statistics represent, how to use statistics to organize and display data, and how to draw valid inferences based on data by using appropriate statistical tools.

CAREER OPTIONS IN COMMERCE:
The field of commerce is a vast ocean in itself and is very dynamic in nature. It is so rapidly developing by the day that only the keenest of its students can keep pace with it. This challenging facet of this stream is what attracts more & more students towards a career & life associated with commerce and the number of such people is increasing by the day. Here is a review of some of the career options that present themselves before the students in commerce after 12th Standard.
Most of these careers are well rewarded in terms of remuneration, global exposure etc.

  1. Business Manager (B.Com, BBM, MFM, MBA – Finance):Management implies the qualities of leadership and the capacity to motivate people to work in order to achieve clearly defined objectives. It involves taking decisions based on innumerable economic and other factors. Planning, scheduling, decision making, controlling, etc., requires information whereas evaluation of technical, economic and other factors make management techniques important. Management education leads to specialization in marketing, sales, human resources and financial divisions of most corporations and financial institutions.
  2. Marketing Manager / Marketing Research Executive (MBA – Marketing):Marketing jobs entail identification of the needs of the customer, employing marketing strategies with profit objective in mind. Market researchers make quantitative and qualitative analysis of customer choices and needs, locate potential customer population, assess the need for a new or improved product, collect relevant information about competing products, suitable location of sale outlets, price of the product and profitability.
  3. Company Secretary (CS):Company Secretaries deal with legal aspects in the management of a company. They keep company’s records; complete tax returns; advice the Board of Directors.
  4. Chartered Accountant (CA):Chartered Accountants deal with the management of money and provide financial advice. They maintain records of financial transactions which every organization is required to keep by law and also carry out company audits.
  5. Certified Financial Analyst (CFA):A Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) is trained in financial analysis which involves a thorough understanding of the companies finances, investments, growth plans etc. CFA’s are trained in corporate finance, financial services and investment management.
  6. Finance Manager (MBA – Finance):Financial managers prepare financial reports, advice on investments and are involved in financial management strategies and planning for business viability.
  7. Banker (MBA – Finance & Banking):Banking professionals handle client’s money – In simple terms, they help individuals & corporate with their investments, loans and all other money related issues.
  8. Hotel Management (MBA – Finance / Marketing / Hotel Management):Hotel management is a service industry which focuses on serving the needs of its clients. Training in hotel management has wide applications which can be used in several service industries. Hotel Managers are responsible for the efficient and profitable operation of their establishments.
  9. Public Relations Officer (PRO) –Public relations (PR) personnel present their organization in the best possible light, so their objectives, policies or services have positive appeal. They are responsible for corporate communication to maintain a balanced public image of the corporate’s performance. Corporate communications departments play a vital role in policy planning as well as in maintaining mutual understanding within the organization.
  10. Travel Counselor (MBA – Travel & Tourism):Travel counselors make tour plans for tourists and clients, plan the itinerary, suggest best travel options and advise about destinations. They operate within the infrastructure set up by the tourism departments of the government and the ancillary services which support the tourism industry.
